Mermaid

For more than twenty-five years I have been completely fascinated with the idea of mermaids. Ron Howard's 1984 film, Splash, was definitely the cornerstone of a captivation that has grown so intense, I now find it all but impossible to pass any image of a mermaid without "ooohing", "aaahing" and in some cases purchasing whatever the item is.

The mythology, the history, the legend; simply put, I heart mermaids.
A lot.

I'm sure you can image the pleasure I felt while putting this little charmer together. I quilted her fabric tail and used wool felt for both her body and hair. She's lightly stuffed and registers in at a petite five inches tall.

Pattern from the ever-inspiring Hillary Lang's book Wee Wonderfuls.

Both of my girls have wanted this doll since the book was released.

Did you see the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean? Whoa. That Mermaid scene is freaking terrifying.
