Stingy Jack*

Q: What do 30,000 Jack-O-Lanterns + 60,000 Bostonians + 1 Boston Common equal?

A: Boston’s Annual Jack-O-Lantern Festival!

Two years ago, The Big Guy and I went on our second date to the Jack-O-Lantern Festival on Boston Common and fell in love…this year we were joined by my Mom, The Kruckenberg Family and what felt like half the residents of Boston. While not as romantic, we all had a spectacular time and were amazed at the impressive (record breaking?) turn out of people and jacks.

This year Boston is attempting to smash the current world jack-o-lantern record by lighting 30,000 jacks on the Common. Our New England neighbor to the north, Keene, NH, presently holds the record with 28,952 glowing jacks in 2003. In an attempt to keep the record in Keene, they held a festival tonight as well where they hoped to light 30,000 jacks of their own.

Final count numbers are still not in, and whether record breaking or not, the Common Jack-O-Lantern Festival is always a fun and incredible sight to see; enjoy the pictures:

(we've also started Christmas songs and I sure wish we could have you here to sing with us!)It's the only time it's okay to sing Christmas this early. :)
